Ann Preston was born in Seattle in 1942, and attended Swarthmore College and School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She received her BFA at Tufts University in 1968 and her MFA from CalArts in 1980. Early exhibitions were at LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions); Pence Gallery, Santa Monica; group shows at Holly Solomon Gallery, NY; and Barbara Toll Fine Arts, NY. Her debut exhibition with Rosamund Felsen Gallery was in 1993.
Preston's work was included in various group exhibitions at City Gallery of Contemporary Art, Raleigh, NC; Philadelphia Art Alliance; Phoenix Triennial, Phoenix Art Museum; Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena; Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati; Nora Haime Gallery, NY; and Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Santa Monica. She has completed permanent commissions including the San Francisco Courthouse Family Court in 1998; San Francisco International Airport in 2000; and the Performing Arts Center, Univ of Utah, Logan in 2007. In 1998 she received an NEA Sculpture Fellowship. The artist lives in Valencia, CA.
