Press Release

Showing in January, will be the Los Angeles debut of artist C.K. Wilde. This young artist brings to the gallery an intensity of focus and production on the animal subject of the horse. Wilde starts with the graphic lines of the horse familiar in the classic weathervane. He is fascinated with the history of labor that the horse symbolizes, and he manifests this in his own process of production. Wilde maniacally exploits the possibilities for collage– cutting and reusing thousands of items of paper such as currency, advertising, maps, and all kinds of amazing printed ephemera he collects. He has meticulously selected every shred of material he uses, from encountering it in garage sales and thrift stores, to the application with tweezers and glue onto the surfaces of his work. The many pieces are fitted together in complex matrices and silhouettes to create his compositions. Assembling galloping horses, Wilde has harnessed their powers through the most unexpected means.
