For Nancy Jackson’s first show with Rosamund Felsen Gallery since 2013, a collection of large & small scale hand-dyed & stitched felt applique wall hangings are presented. Shaped like capsules, beams & other rounded forms, these new works are explorations of materials and embellished exercises in compositional ornamentation. Historical and modern iconography are alluded to as symmetry, compositional motifs and space find harmony.
Lenticular flip prints embedded within the felt designs contain painted portraits, figurations & abstractions. Perception, motion and depth are experimented with in this juxtaposition of materials. Swirls of sinuous lines, punctuated by constellations of markings, narrate suggestions of nature's elemental forms. Here, creative explorations meet familiar gestures and pave the way for interpretation, illusion, and wondrous fantasy.
Nancy Jackson has been exhibiting with the gallery since 2001 and has been in exhibitions at The San Jose Museum of Art; The Drawing Center, NY; Laguna Gloria Museum, Austin; and Pomona College Museum of Art among others.
