Press Release

Populating his canvases from various encounters throughout his life, Gegam Kacherian has been weaving dreamlike imagery using atmospheric colors since he began exhibiting at Rosamund Felsen Gallery. Dancers, acrobats, musicians, friends and fellow artists have all tread lightly in his romantic visions where exotic animals appear in defiantly shifting landscapes or breathtaking floating city views, creating both mythic and intuitive reveries where the representational and the abstract intersect.

In this series, new dimensions manifest themselves adding to the complex layers already present. In some cases, certain aspects of his subjects such as face, chest or feet vanish, while in other works the subjects find themselves thrust into a vast empty space. The additions and departures in these new paintings proclaim Kacherian’s masterful ability to express representational form harmoniously with the abstract.
